The National Youth Science Forum is pleased to announce some of the exciting guest speakers, lab visits and site tours for NYSF's National Science Teachers’ Summer School 2016 (NSTSS 2016) this coming January.
Professor Shari Forbes from the University of Technology Sydney will be presenting on the fundamentals of interdisciplinary science in practice – how do all of the pieces of the puzzle fit together? Professor Forbes is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow, and the lead researcher and coordinator of Australia’s first body farm located in the Blue Mountains, NSW - established to research and monitor the decay of dead bodies under local conditions. Her stories are gruesome, but awesome. Read more about her work here.
A tour of the Australian National University’s National Computational Infrastructure Centre will take participants up close and personal with the power and interactive nature of modern data manipulation methods and their applications.
Associate Professor Graham Hardy from the University of South Australia will discuss leading edge approaches to interdisciplinary learning and teaching in STEM; and how to engage disadvantaged and diverse students in STEM learning.
Geoff McNamara, winner of the 2014 Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching will host a visit of his labs at Melrose High, and lead an informal session on his approach to science teaching;
A live cross to the CERN Large Hadron Collider, along with the students of the National Youth Science Forum 2016, will offer a unique opportunity to engage with some of our future science leaders.
And that is just a taste of what is in store for participants … to learn more about how to attend NSTSS 2016 all you have to do is go to http://www.nysf.edu.au/other/teachers.
