“Whatever you are doing, wherever you are, you can write it”
Running since 2001, the Science Show is a weekly segment on ABC Radio National which delves into all areas of science from all kinds of people. So far in 2020, stories have spanned from climate change to a mummies’ DNA and people from all ages and backgrounds have been involved. As long as you have a passion for your subject, host Robyn Williams AO is interested to hear what you have to say.
Robyn Williams AO is an award-winning science journalist and broadcaster, presenter for RN’s The Science Show and Ockham's Razor. He has conducted countless interviews with scientists on ABC TV on programs such as Quantum and Catalyst, narrated the Nature of Australia series and appeared in World Safari with David Attenborough.
How can you get involved? After delivering a Science Communication workshop at the 2020 NYSF Year 12 Program, Robyn is calling all NYSF Alumni with a passion for STEM to submit a pitch to appear with him on the Science Show. This is your chance to talk about an area of STEM which really interests YOU! Need some inspiration, here are some recent shows that might be of interest:
To pitch your segment, just follow the below steps;
1.“Whatever you are doing, wherever you are, you can write it”
Write a 4/5 min spiel on your science passion (1-2 pages), make sure you read it aloud to make sure it flows. Use active language, present tense, to get the reader’s attention. Make sure you include a big idea and finish with a sense of where the passion is going? You should emphasise why it matters to you!
2. Send your submission to communications@nysf.edu.auand we will send it onto Robyn and his team!
Good luck!
